They are worse than animals

Everybody knows that the Egyptian police has no regard for human life. The thing is that we never saw any videos or footage before. Now cell phones and most PDAs have tiny cameras that capture the shit that goes on inside our police stations. Shit like this.

Pictures and maps of Egypt cira 1900s

Check out this site. Lots of pictures from all over Egypt mostly in the early 20th century. Look how clean and beautiful Cairo was!

Jimmy pays a secret visit to the white house

I came accross this article on Google news. I couldn't find the referenced article on al-Jazeera so it might be bogus. Anyways it seems that the current regime is willing to do all what it takes to ensure a smooth transition to Jimmy. Mubarak knows that he is after all mortal and wants to ensure that the kingdom remain in his blood line. Whether that will happen remains to be seen, but one thing I am certain of is that our next transition will be an "interesting" one. So far I dislike all of the available options, so we're in for a rough ride for the next 10-20 years.

Are we on the verge of a revolution?

Time magazie had this article on the latest protests to hit Egypt. The state might have won the battle but it knows it lost the war. Change will come and this regime will be toppled. The people had enough. Beating and abusing people will not make them side with the regime, on the contrary they will hate it more. The judges have now become a symbol of revolt against the regime and their popularity is gaining. The fact that they had to send 10 thousand troops to clamp down on the demonstation points that they are in panic mode. It will take time, but I will not be surprised if one day thousands of Egyptians hit the streets asking for a better life, a chance of freedom. We just have to overcome our fears. The fear of the "pharaoh" and overcome our endemic apathy. We are a subdued nation that will wake up. I just hope that when we do wake up we decide to fix the mess we are in and not end up going back to the dark ages.

The King is naked

The Cynic has an excellent post on the latest violence that hits Egypt. The picture is worth a thousand words, but what is quite interesting about it, besides the blatant beating and disrespect for human life by our police is:

1- It appears to me that only officers are doing the beating. The soldiers are simply watching their "pharaoh" do his job and dare not interfere.

2- The guy in the foreground is simply watching the whole thing. A classic example of apathy.

The picture depicts the effectivness of our regime. A mix of god-like authority and apathy keep the population under control.

Food for thought from Dr. Wafa Sultan

Check out this video.

Powerfull words and she has lots of guts to come out on al-Jazeera and say that. My favorite part is when the other guy jumps in and asks if she is a "non-believer", this is what really concerns him. No need to argue with a non-believer since she goes to hell anyways!

Pharaonic statues are blasphemous!

Check this article on the latest fatwa to hit Egypt. Just like that, the last thing that remains for Egyptians to feel proud of themselves has been declared blasphemous. I do not know where Egypt is heading to, but from the way things are going it looks like we are heading to the 13th century.

Mufti draws the line!

"They must be liquidated physically and struck with all force ... We must not sympathise with people who have polluted their hands with the blood of Muslims," Ali Gomaa, the chief mufti of Egypt, told a seminar on Sunday night.

Does that mean that it is ok had they only polluted their hands with the blood of non-Muslims!

A lesson in ass kissing

Our beloved president celebrated his birthday yesterday and it was a chance for all news paper editors to practice their brown-nosing skills. Here are the articles from al Ahram and el Akhbar.

Holy shit!

This is fucked up!
